A realistic count

For most babies, Eid needs one special outfit, one or two soft backups that still look nice, and the usual sleepsuit for the night. If you are visiting relatives on all three days, add one more smart outfit, or plan to reuse the special one with a different top or layer.

Buying a new outfit for every visit is rarely worth it for a baby. They will change size before the next Eid, and the photos you will treasure are mostly taken on the first morning. For what makes a good first Eid outfit in the first place, see our guide to Eid outfit ideas for babies and children.

Eid day, hour by hour

  • Early morning: while others go to Eid prayers, the baby can stay in their sleepsuit. There is no point dressing them before breakfast.
  • Breakfast: sheer khurma and sweet dishes are sticky. Keep the baby in something plain, or use a large bib.
  • Late morning: dress them in the special outfit for the first visitors and the family photo. This is the best time for pictures, before the nap and the lunch mess.
  • Afternoon nap: take off anything stiff, such as a waistcoat, and let them nap in the soft layer underneath.
  • Evening dawat: switch to a backup outfit if the special one has taken a hit, and keep a sleepsuit in the bag for the drive home.

Days two and three

In Pakistan, Eid is usually celebrated over three days, with each day given to a different side of the family or a different round of visits. The guests on day two may not have seen the day-one outfit, so wearing it again is perfectly reasonable.

Plan the washing. Knit outfits dry slowly in winter and in monsoon humidity, so if the special outfit needs a wash after day one, it may not be ready by the next morning. A second smart set solves this, for example the Navy Moon & Stars Henley & Jogger Set for one day and the Dusty Rose Ribbed Henley & Jogger Set for another.

Gifted outfits and both sides of the family

In many families, the first day of Eid belongs to one side and the second day to the other, and both sets of grandparents would love to see the baby in something special. If one side has given an Eid outfit as a gift, wear it on their day and send them a photo. It is a small gesture that saves a lot of feelings, and it spreads the outfits naturally across the days without buying anything extra.

If two gifted outfits arrive in the same size, check which will fit longer and save that one for the second or third day.

Stretching one special piece

If you have one outfit you love, make it do more. A soft set can be worn plain on day one and with a small waistcoat on day two. A kurta can go with different trousers. An embroidered name makes even a simple set feel like an Eid outfit, and custom embroidery starts from Rs 500 through our custom orders.

The same approach lets one festive outfit cover many occasions, such as Eid, a wedding and a birthday.

What to keep in the day bag

  • One complete spare outfit, not just a top.
  • A plain bodysuit, in case a nappy leak reaches the layer underneath.
  • A large bib and a muslin.
  • A sleepsuit for the evening drive home.
  • A cardigan for air-conditioned rooms or a cool evening.

Quick answers

Does my baby need a new outfit for each day of Eid?

No. Different relatives usually see the baby on different days, so one special outfit and a couple of nice backups are enough for most families.

When should I dress my baby in the Eid outfit?

After breakfast and before the first visitors, so the outfit is clean for the family photo. Keep them in something plain for sticky breakfasts.

What if I only want to buy one Eid outfit?

Choose a soft set in a festive colour and change its look with a waistcoat or a different top on later days. For more first-Eid ideas, see our guide to Eid outfit ideas for babies and children.

Is it worth buying a first Eid outfit in a bigger size?

If Eid is more than a few weeks away, yes, especially for a baby under a year old. A slightly roomy outfit still looks good, and it may fit again for the next family occasion.
