Why look past pink

There is nothing wrong with pink, and plenty of parents love it. The trouble is that when a baby girl is born, almost every relative reaches for it, and within a fortnight her drawer can hold a dozen shades of the same colour. A gift in a different colour stands out, mixes with everything she already has, and often ends up being the outfit parents reach for on the days nothing else seems to go.

The colours below all look soft and pretty on a baby girl without being predictable. Most of them also photograph beautifully next to the bright colours relatives tend to wear at family gatherings.

Forest green with florals

Our Forest Green Floral Ruffle Top & Bow Trousers show how a deeper colour can still feel delicate. The cream flower print, frilled shoulders and cuffs, and frilled ankles keep it light, while the elasticated waist with a bow makes it easy to pull on and off.

It is a ribbed knit, so it suits the cooler months, dressy afternoons at relatives’ homes and Eid photos. For a baby born in spring, choosing the size she will be in by autumn gives you the best of it.

A softer kind of pink

If the parents do love pink, a muted shade is a good compromise. The Dusty Rose Ribbed Henley & Jogger Set is pink without shouting: a henley with three buttons and a patch pocket over matching joggers. It sits well next to cream, grey and navy, so it doesn’t add to the sea of bright pink so much as calm it down.

Sage, cream and oatmeal

Soft neutrals look especially sweet on baby girls and are often overlooked because they aren’t thought of as “girly” colours. The Sage Cable-Knit Teddy Sweater & Jogger Set, with its teddy-face patch and matching cable-knit joggers, is a cosy winter gift that works for everyday wear and visits alike.

To add a feminine touch to a neutral piece, have her name embroidered in a rose or cream thread. Name embroidery starts from Rs 500 through our custom orders, and the price is confirmed before anything is made.

Navy for something different

Navy is rarely chosen for a baby girl, which is exactly why it can work. The Navy Moon & Stars Henley & Jogger Set has a dreamy night-sky print that feels gentle rather than sporty. Darker colours are also forgiving with milk and food stains, which parents quietly appreciate by month six.

Pieces that pair with what she has

A good test for any gift is whether it goes with the things she already owns. Forest green, dusty rose, sage and navy all sit happily next to pink, so the parents can mix a top from one outfit with bottoms from another on busy days. Cream and oatmeal work with literally everything.

If you know the parents’ taste, match it: some families love bold, bright colour; others dress their daughter almost entirely in soft neutrals. A quick look at the photos they share will usually tell you which.

Choosing the size

Unless you are buying the very first outfit, a bigger size is usually more useful: 3–6 months for a newborn, 6–12 months for a baby of a few months. Our size guide shows heights and weights for each range, and our post on personalised baby gifts explains why bigger sizes get more wear.

Quick answers

Is green a nice colour for a baby girl?

Yes. Forest green with a cream floral print looks soft and pretty, and sage is a gentle neutral that suits any baby. Both mix well with the pinks she is likely to be given.

What can I give a baby girl for Eid?

A dressy set like the forest green floral ruffle outfit works well for Eid visits, or you can ask us about a custom frock or kurta through our custom stitching. Order early, as prices and making times are confirmed when you ask.

Can I add pink embroidery to a neutral set?

Yes. A name or initials in a rose, pink or cream thread is a simple way to make a sage or oatmeal set feel like hers. Embroidery starts from Rs 500.

Will the parents mind if I avoid pink?

Very few will. Most are glad of something that breaks up a drawer of pink, and if they love pink, a dusty rose set gives them that colour in a softer form.
