Twins at aqiqah and first Eid: match or coordinate?
Dressing twins for their aqiqah and first Eid: identical or coordinating outfits, telling them apart in photos, sizing two different babies and adding names.
Identical or coordinating: both work
Identical outfits look striking, and many families love them for the first big occasions. The drawback shows up later: in a room full of relatives, and in every photo afterwards, nobody can tell which baby is which. Coordinating outfits, in the same style but different colours, keep the matching look while making each baby easy to spot.
There is no right answer. Some parents dress twins identically for the aqiqah and switch to coordinating for Eid, when the babies have their own personalities and relatives want to know who they are holding.
Same style, two colours
The simplest way to coordinate is one design in two shades. Our Charcoal Waffle-Knit Henley & Jogger Set and Sage Waffle-Knit Henley & Jogger Set are the same henley and jogger design in two colours, so they look like a pair without being copies. The charcoal set is a wool waffle knit, which suits a winter aqiqah.
For boy and girl twins, the Dusty Rose Ribbed Henley & Jogger Set has the same henley neck and patch pocket, so it sits well beside either waffle set in photos.
Names help everyone
Whatever you choose, keep a note of which colour or initial belongs to which twin and stick to it for the whole day. Grandparents who can’t tell the babies apart soon learn that sage is one and charcoal the other, and the photos are easy to label afterwards.
- Embroider each baby’s name or initials on their outfit. Relatives passing the babies around will thank you.
- Use the same lettering but a different thread colour for each twin, so the outfits still read as a pair.
- Put the name somewhere visible in photos, such as the chest or the pocket, rather than the back.
- If identical outfits matter to you, a small initial on the cuff is enough to tell them apart without spoiling the look.
Sizing two different babies
Twins are often different sizes, sometimes noticeably. Measure each baby’s length and check their weight separately against our size guide. It is common for one twin to need 0–3M while the other is ready for 3–6M, and ordering both in the larger size can leave the smaller baby lost in fabric.
When one twin is in a bigger size, keep the style the same and let the size differ. In photos, the matching design matters far more than identical sizing.
Photographing two babies
Twins are harder to photograph than one baby, because they are rarely both content at the same moment. Dress them, feed them one after the other, and take the photo as soon as both are settled rather than waiting for the perfect pose. Lay them side by side on a plain blanket with the embroidered names facing the camera, or have two adults hold one each. Coordinating colours help here too: two different shades make it easy to see where one baby ends and the other begins in a close shot.
Planning ahead for the first Eid
Eid ul-Fitr 2027 is expected around 10 March, depending on the moon sighting. Work out how old the twins will be on the day and size for that age, not for today; our post on what size to order for Eid clothes bought early explains how. For outfit ideas, see our Eid 2027 outfit guide.
Pack at least one spare outfit per baby, in separate labelled bags. With two babies, spit-up and nappy leaks tend to arrive at the same time.
Quick answers
Should boy and girl twins wear matching outfits?
Many families coordinate instead: the same style in two colours, such as a sage set for one and dusty rose for the other, or the same motif on different garments.
How do I tell identical twins apart in photos?
Embroider initials or names on each outfit, or use a different thread colour for each baby. It helps relatives on the day too.
Can you embroider both names on matching sets?
Yes. Custom embroidery starts from Rs 500, and every product can be customised. Ask through our custom orders page for a quote for both.
Should twins always wear the same size?
Only if they measure the same. Twins often differ in length and weight, so size each baby separately and keep the style the same instead.
