Size for December, not for today

A winter jumpsuit is often bought in autumn, sometimes as early as September, for a baby who is growing fast. In Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the months that really need one are roughly late November to February. So the useful question isn’t “what size is my baby?” but “what size will they be in December and January?”

Babies don’t grow at an even pace, and the labels are age ranges, not promises. Use your baby’s current height and the months ahead as a rough guide, then check the numbers against our size guide.

Worked examples by birth month

  • Born in March or April: about 8 or 9 months by December. A 6–12M may be tight by February, so check their height and consider 12–18M.
  • Born in May: about 7 months by December, so 6–12M is the natural choice and should last the winter.
  • Born in August: about 4 months by December and 6 months by February. A 3–6M may be outgrown before the cold ends; many parents go for 6–12M and fold the cuffs.
  • Born in October: about 2 months in December. A 0–3M fits the coldest weeks, but a 3–6M will still be useful in February.
  • Born in December or January: start with 0–3M, and check the height range, since some newborns are already near the top of it.
  • Toddlers born the winter before: 12–18M or 18–24M, depending on height more than age.

Leave room for the layers underneath

A jumpsuit is a top layer. Underneath will be a bodysuit and often a knit set or sleepsuit, so it needs a little more room than an indoor outfit of the same size. In a one-piece, the length from shoulder to crotch matters most: if the body is too short, your baby is hunched and the zip strains, even if the sleeves look fine.

Measure your baby’s height lying down, then compare it with the size ranges. If they are near the top of a range in September, the next size up is usually the right winter buy. Our guide to baby clothes sizes by age, height and weight explains how to measure.

Also think about where you live. A Quetta or Islamabad baby wears the jumpsuit over thicker layers and for more months than a baby in Multan, so a little extra room is worth more there.

Between sizes? Go up, with care

A slightly big jumpsuit is easier to live with than a tight one: fold cuffs back, add a thicker layer underneath and it will fit longer. But very big has its own problems. The hood falls over the eyes, cold air gets in at the neck, and in footed styles the feet slip around.

For a footed jumpsuit, check the feet too. There should be a little room beyond the toes when your baby stretches their legs out fully, or the jumpsuit will feel short even if the body fits.

Ask before you order

Both our Grey Bear Hooded Jumpsuit and Cream Puppy Sherpa Hooded Jumpsuit come in 0–3M to 18–24M. If you are unsure, send us your baby’s height and age on WhatsApp and we will help you choose. Exchanges are possible within 7 days for unused pieces in their original condition with the original bill, so try the jumpsuit on briefly over clean clothes when it arrives and keep the bill safe.

If your baby is outside the usual ranges, ask about adjustments through our custom orders page; what is possible is confirmed when you ask.

Quick answers

Should I buy the same size as my baby’s everyday clothes?

Usually the same size or one up, because the jumpsuit goes over other layers and needs to last the whole winter. Check the height range rather than relying on age alone.

My baby is between 3–6M and 6–12M. Which one?

For a winter jumpsuit, most parents go up to 6–12M. Fold the cuffs for the first few weeks and use a hat under the hood if it is roomy.

Can I buy one jumpsuit to last two winters?

Rarely. Babies grow so much in a year that a jumpsuit big enough for next winter would swamp them this one. Buy for this winter and pass it on.

When is the best time to buy?

Once you can measure your baby in October or early November, you have a much better idea of their December size than in summer. Buying earlier is fine if you size up.
